Education Philosophy
I firmly believe that every student is unique with individual talents and skills. Given this, I believe there are three beliefs that are crucial in a classroom. First, an educator must create a fun and safe learning environment. Second, student’s skills and abilities should be encouraged and used to facilitate their learning. Third, each student and educator must give and receive respect for him/herself, of others, and of other’s belongings.
It is vital that a classroom is seen and felt as one that focuses around education and safety. Students should feel welcomed each day, and that his or her talents are seen and respected within that classroom. When each student feels that he or she can freely express him or herself, education takes flight with each student being at the center of his or her's learning. Furthermore, a safe and exciting classroom allows students to go beyond what many educators expect.
Each student is unique and each student should be able to bring forth his or her abilities to help them learn. Too often, educators stick to the strict routine of assessing each student the same way. I believe that as an educator in the 21st century, it is my obligation to assess each student based on his or her skills, and allow each student to use his or her skills to learn the material.
All persons want and should give respect, to themselves and others. When an educator creates, and nourishes this type of classroom environment, students are more willing to participate in the class and are more open about their concerns or beliefs. Respect, received and given, creates an environment which cherishes each person in that classroom and places education at the forefront each day.
